Wood dust is created when machines or tools are used to cut or shape wood. Wood dust is created in sawmills, furniture, joinery and carpentry industries. Despite its dangers, wood dust is often viewed as a harmless by-product of these activities. However, inhaling high levels of wood dust can lead to a number of health problems, including cancer. For this reason, it is imperative for workers in these industries to take precautions to protect themselves from exposure to wood dust. People with lighter skin have a higher risk of skin cancer because they have less melanin, which provides some protection from the sun’s rays.
